Dear parents and families,
A northern Chinese Summer is here. The days are long, the skies are blue and the trees are a buzz with the sounds of insects. The rains are coming and the heat is already here. Our students are enjoying this season, however, it is important that we keep ourselves safe. This means we all should be drinking lots of water, avoiding the midday and early afternoon sun and taking things are little easier when it gets real hot. Sunglasses and hats are hugely popular in Australia during our long, hot Summers. I encourage your children to wear these items too when they are outside enjoying the Summer heat.
Last week we had to make the decision to postpone our HaileyVision English song competition. We made this decision because our campus will be hosting a VCE conference over Thursday and Friday this week, which interrupted our HaileyVision plans. However, we have now rescheduled this event to occur on Friday 30 June, 1:30-3:00pm. HaileyVision will follow our morning year 6 Graduation Ceremony and will be a fantastic formula to send off our graduating students with. We hope that all parents and families can attend our special HaileyVision English song competition. Please let your child’s homeroom teacher know if you will be unable to attend this event.
Our examinations have begun! On Monday 19 June, the international English teachers began administering their examinations to their students. These examinations began earlier as a significant amount of time is spent interviewing the students to ascertain their English Language skills, abilities and ways of thinking. Our Chinese and Mathematics examinations will be administered on the mornings of Wednesday and Thursday respectively. Formal examination results, Achievement Markers and student comments will be reported to you on Friday 30 June. We are looking forward to reporting to you improved learning outcomes across all subject areas.
As in any school, we are always reviewing and tinkering with our processes and procedures. We can always do things better to improve our teaching and learning plan. Recently, we reviewed our Night Time Study Plan. Our plan encompasses the time students have between finishing their After School Club at 4:50pm, to returning to their dormitories for their rest and relaxation from 7:10pm. After talking with homeroom and Life teachers we have developed an improved Framework of Practice. Our Framework provides our students with improved opportunities to complete their homework, access alternative teaching and learning programs, work with their specialist teachers and enjoy opportunities to explore their own interests and passions. The new plan also ensures that all students are actively engaged in learning within a safe and supportive environment.
The new 2017/18 academic school year is fast approaching. School Leadership, teachers and support staff have been working hard to ensure that all plans, processes and procedures are in place for a successful new beginning. There will be some changes, but we can report that many successful aspects of our Practice will continue through into the new school year. We are expecting more students, new staff and the arrival of an array of further exciting teaching and learning materials for your children to engage within. It is an exciting time to be a member of the Haileybury community!
We look forward to seeing you all soon.
At Haileybury, every child matters, every day.
