Easter is a festival celebrated by different religions in many countries. It began as a pagan festival in ancient Germany to celebrate Spring time. It is also as an important Christian event, but is now marked by many people around the world, even people who are not Christian. Christians believe that God’s son Jesus came to Earth, was killed by the Romans on Good Friday, but miraculously came back to life three days later, on Easter Sunday.
Easter is a celebration of Spring and new life, and today there is a magical rabbit named the Easter Bunny, who gives chocolate eggs to all the children at Easter time. Easter is now very famous for eating chocolate, and for this reason is many children’s favourite day of the year. Children may get so much chocolate that they have enough to eat for days or weeks after Easter has finished. People often give each other greeting cards and many children are given gifts filled with candy. Eggs are hidden for children to find that the "Easter Bunny" supposedly laid.
Many years ago, these used to be chicken eggs that had been painted in bright colours, but now they are all made of chocolate, which is much better, obviously. Students in many Western countries have holidays during Easter time. Most importantly though, Easter is a time to talk to family and friends, and to celebrate the happiness in our lives.
That’s the end of this speech, thanks.
Easter is an important celebration in the West, on the first Sunday after the annual spring equinox. Christians believe that the Easter symbolise the life and hope, in honor of the day when Jesus Christ was resurrected on the third day after being crucified between the 30th and 33rd AD.
Since the annual spring equinox is not fixed, the exact date of the Easter is also uncertain. But the festival is roughly between March 22 and April 25.
Easter food is very special, mostly mutton and ham.
The most typical representative of Easter is the egg. The purpose of the egg is to bring happiness to people. These eggs are beautiful and decorative, they represent people's good wishes and share the joy of seasonal change.
Typical Easter gifts are related to spring and regeneration: eggs, chickens, bunny, flowers, and especially lilies are symbols of this season. On Easter Eve, the children paint their eggs for friends and family. Some of these eggs are cooked very old, and some are just empty eggshells. On Easter morning, the children will find the Easter basket in front of the bed filled with chocolate eggs, fluffy chickens and doll toys.
Another symbol of Easter is the bunny because it is highly reproductive, and people see it as the creator of a new life. During the festival, adults will vividly tell the children that Easter eggs will hatch into rabbits. Many families also put some eggs on the garden lawn to let the children play the game of finding eggs. Easter bunny and eggs have also become popular items during the holiday season.
The greatest significance that has been passed down to us today is that we can have a grateful heart and thank you for your wonderful life.
That’s the speech for today, thank you all.
