On Thursday the 30th of May, a group of students from the primary and middle departments of HIST enjoyed the opportunity to perform on stage at the Grand Theatre of Tianjin at Cathay Future Kindergarten’s 20th anniversary celebration. It was a long day as students left the school at 7.30 AM and returned at 6.50 pm. The celebration was in the afternoon and it only featured acts of high calibre. Our HIST students performed two songs, “Breaking Free” from High School Musical, and “School is Cool” with Mr. Joshua Webb - a song he co-wrote for Hey DUBY. Our band played behind our singers and they were both supported by a video montage showing highlights of Haileybury school life. Executive principal of Haileybury International School Tianjin Mr. Peter Rogerson also presented the prestigious kindergarten with a special memento – The Haileybury Kangaroo. Our students performed stunningly and were warmly received by the audience. Well done to all the students and many thanks to head of junior school Ms. Vivian Jia for overseeing the whole visit.

Children’s day was celebrated at the Dwyer Billabong which is located beside the school campus on Friday the 31st of May. The weather was great on the day and the event was attended by primary school children, parents and staff. Children’s day is a day that celebrates, commemorates and advocates the rights and welfare of children from around the world. It is also a day when children can play and just be themselves. Parents were asked to bring a snack or a drink to the event and the food and drinks were shared amongst members of each class. The event was an excellent opportunity for parents to mingle with each other and with teachers. Every week, students take part in cultural activities such as calligraphy in their Chinese lessons. During the Children’s Day celebrations, students also had the opportunity to make traditional Chinese handicraft. It was great to see the students putting in so much effort and care in their handicraft – many of which was hung up on the willow trees that line the billabong. Many thanks to head of Chinese Ms. Rosie Jiang for organising the Chinese handicraft and Mr. Eric Xu and Head of junior school Ms. Vivian Jia for making the event an enjoyable one for students, parents and staff.
