HAILEYBURY PRIMARY CAMPUS NEWS and INFORMATION
Bulletin 4, 2020-2021
Dear primary school parents and families,
In the past month, a lot of meaningful things have happened in the Haileybury Primary School. Teachers constantly strive to improve their education and teaching ability. Students study hard and at the same time also participate in a variety of activities to improve their ability.
Goethe said: We all have to learn something from our predecessors and peers. Even the greatest genius, if he or she wants to deal with everything with his or her unique inner self, will never achieve much.
The teachers and students in the Primary School of Haileybury have learned a lot from their peers.
Every Friday's English assembly is a good time for children to understand the world and learn moral knowledge in English, and it is also a good place for children to show their English ability. In the past few weeks, the Primary School has held a campaign for the English team leaders. More than 20 students from Grade 1 to Grade 6 ran for the election. Roy, Emily and Molly from Lower Primary School, Hulk, Elizabeth, David and Jim from Upper Primary School were elected English representatives of the Primary School. They will do translation for teachers and maintain order in the English assembly every Friday. No matter whether you are elected or not, it is a success to be able to bravely step onto the stage to show yourself. Congratulations to the students who were elected and applaud all the students who bravely stepped onto the stage.
The Chinese assembly every Monday evening is a good time for students to learn the school rules, regulations and safety knowledge, and to select the excellent students and excellent classes of the week. At the same time, it is also a link for each class to show themselves to the students. In recent school assemblies, the sixth graders introduced their feelings when they were promoted to the sixth grade. At the same time, they invited their parents and junior students to talk about their feelings. At the school meeting, the sixth graders introduced to the younger students how to plan their own time, how to set a goal and achieve it.
Let's take a look at how they express themselves: Innocent play and rigorous study and life are the foundation of our efforts to move forward. With goals and ideals, we are now the sixth grade students. Our sixth grade will leave the deepest impression in our memory. We all want to say: To be the best of us, we must learn to be grateful. Be grateful to people around us, our teachers, classmates and parents, and even every stranger who helped us. Our sixth grade is full of joy and sadness. Our sixth grade is like positive sunshine. There is no fear or retreat. We will do our best to let it bloom the most beautiful flowers.
The sixth graders invited Bobby from Grade 7 to talk about his feelings when he was in Grade 6. They also invited Kaiham Jiang from Grade 3 and George Li from Grade 4 to talk about their vision for Grade 6. Finally, they invited their grandparents and parents to talk about their sixth grade.
Through this assembly, students have understood the importance of studying hard, being grateful, cherishing the good time now and planning their own life.
For the growth of children, schools should not only provide courses, but also provide a platform for trust. The association initiated by students provides the soil for each individual to grow up, and the stage of Haileybury belongs to every child.
There are various forms of mutual learning among teachers, including lectures, evaluation, teaching research and forums. At the same time, the Primary School organizes teachers to hold forums every Friday afternoon. On the forums, teachers can not only learn the experience of teaching and management from peer teachers, but also hear some touching stories behind. It’s really a good chance for teachers to learn from each other, develop strengths and avoid weaknesses, and improve together.
Teachers who have shared recently on the forums are Wei Li, Li Zheng, Gao Tingting, He Miankui, Nathan Williamson, Xu Jianan, Wang Meng, Zhang Jing, Chen Shutong and Zhu Haiming. On the forum, Ms. Wei shared the story of students overcoming difficulties when learning to swim. In addition to the weekly teaching forum, teachers of all grades will carry out special teaching and research activities every week, and so will teachers of English group. In recent weeks of teaching and research activities, Mrs. Rachel St. John has taught teachers how to better manage the classroom and how to teach the same content in different forms and exercises. She emphasized once again the importance of the direct explicit teaching method: I do, we do, you do. She encouraged everyone to continue to observe each other’s classes and learn from each other. In the process of the teacher's peer observing activity, we would like to introduce Mr. Ricky's [YG1] vocabulary class. In class, Mr. Ricky [YG2] Linares used his well-prepared PPT and vivid performance to explain vocabulary to his students. He also taught the students to make sentences with the new words. I believe that after such a vivid English course, no students will forget these words!
I do, you do, we do, 的重要性。
People all hope that life will be brilliant, healthy and long. We are all pursuing happiness in life. However, without security, all these goals may disappear in an instant! The importance of safety is the theme that everyone must pay attention to. The enemy of safety is carelessness and ignorance. Many people have lost their lives because of their carelessness and ignorance of trivial things.
Fire is a kind of natural force for human survival and development. It can be said that without the use of fire, there would be no human evolution and development, nor today's material and spiritual civilization. Of course, fire, like other substances, also has duality. It brings civilization and happiness to human beings and promotes the continuous development of human material civilization. However, fire also brings great disasters to human beings. Once the fire is out of control and burns beyond the effective range, it will burn off the material wealth created by human beings through hard work, and even take away people's life and health, and causing irreparable losses. Burning beyond the effective range is called fire.
The popularization and education of fire safety for students can not only reduce the current fire incidence and fire casualties, but also fundamentally improve the students' fire safety quality in the long run, which is of far-reaching significance.
Haileybury attaches importance to the safety education for students. Recently, we have carried out fire safety education for students. At the lecture, Mr. Xu introduced different kinds of fire-fighting equipment and how to use them.
As the saying goes, "Knowledge makes you look taller, books can influence a person for a long time". Gorky once said that "books are the ladder of human progress". Learning any language requires a lot of reading. Learning English also requires a lot of reading. Today, Ms. Zhu's bilingual story is "Andy’s New House". Hope you like it and please stick to English reading.
As the saying goes: "The fist does not leave the hand, the melody does not leave the mouth." The boxer needs to practice his moves and a singer needs to practice his voice every day. We should also insist on reading English aloud when we study English. As long as we insist on reading English and persevere, we can speak fluent English. Today, we have the honor to hear some excellent English dubbing works from the Upper Primary School students. I hope more students will insist on reading English and your works will be heard by more people!
